when people say "everyone is racist", this is usually an ill-fated way to say that racism is part of many of our social structures. this i also very convenient for people who want to push away any accusation of racism, despite having a very poor understanding of how racism works.. i think that is the situation when people talk about "racism getting thrown around".

i guess more precise vocabulary would help. along with a better handling of 'offenders' instead of ostracism. i think it's not helpful to personal growth and just makes people defensive or apathetic..
